Musings on Islam

So we've been reading a bit... my husband and myself. Not sure why we've been so sheltered up to this point because now that I'm interested, I can find info on Islam everywhere I look. And it has begun a strange obsession with me... I'm interested in finding out all things Muslim. What is a "radical Muslim?" What is a "moderate Muslim?" What is TRUE Islam?? Is there such a thing?

If TRUE Islam means living one's life by the Koran, then TRUE Islam = "radical Islam." Having not made it to the hadiths yet, I can't comment on those. I can comment on the Koran, though. And the Muslim religion led by the Koran appears to be a very hate-inspiring thing. To be killed, according to the Koran, are all those "infidels" who reject Muhammed as prophet, and those who are identified as "people of the Book" (presumably people who are Jews and Christians). So... according to the Koran, people who reject the idea of converting to Islam are to be killed for the sake of Allah and the prophet.

Interestingly enough, Muhammed sets himself up to be something pretty darned special -- to the point where he is above his own law. He encourages war upon all those who reject him, and requires 1/5 of all the spoils of war to be given to himself (this after requiring ALL the spoils earlier in the Koran).

Muhammed encourages the beating of wives who are suspected of BECOMING disobedient to their husbands.
4:34 - Men have authority over women because God has made one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As from those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them, forsake them in beds apart, and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them. Surely God is high, supreme.

Muhammed claims that the "people of the book" will be damned to hell. He orders (over 100 times) that it is the responsibility of Muslims to war with all who reject Muhammed's claims.
Examples from the Koran:
2:216 - Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it. But you may hate a thing although it is good for you, and love a thing although it is bad for you. God knows, but you know not.
2:244 - Fight for the cause of God and bear in mind that God hears all and knows all.
3:140 - If you have suffered a defeat, so did the enemy. We alternate these vicissitudes among mankind so that God may know the true believers and choose martyrs from among you (God does not love the evil-doers); and that God may test the faithful and annihilate the infidels.
3:150 - We will put terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. They serve other deities besides God for whom He has revealed no sanction. The Fire shall be their home; evil indeed is the dwelling of the evil-doers.
4:71 - Let those who would exchange the life of this world for the hereafter, fight for the cause of God; whoever fights for the cause of God, whether he dies or triumphs, on him We shall bestow a rich recompense.... The true believers fight for the cause of God, but the infidels fight for the devil. Fight then against the friends of Satan. Satan's cunning is weak indeed.
4:82-84 - Will they not ponder on the Koran? If it had not come from God, they could have surely found in it many contradictions. When they hear any news, good or bad, they at once make it known to all; whereas if they reported it to the Apostle and to the men in charge, those who sought news could learn it from them. But for God's grace and mercy, all but a few of you would have followed Satan. Therefore fight for the cause of God. You are accountable for none but yourself. Rouse the faithful: perchance God will overthrow the might of the unbelievers. Mightier is God and more terrible is His punishment.
59:1-6 - All that is in the heavens and the earth gives glory to God. He is the Mighty, the Wise One. It was He that drove the unbelievers among the People of the Book out of their dwellings into the first exile. You did not think that they would go; and they, for their part, fancied that their strongholds would protect them from God. But God's scourge fell upon them whence they did not expect it, casting such terror into their hearts that their dwellings were destroyed by their own hands as well as by the faithful.
66:9 - Prophet, make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites, and deal sternly with them. Hell shall be their home, evil their fate.

Muhammed also writes to incite fear and hatred of all those not Muslim:
3:118 - Believers, do not make friends with any but your own people. They will spare no pains to corrupt you. They desire nothing but your ruin. Their hatred is evident from what they utter with their mouths, but greater is the hatred which their breasts conceal.... When you are blessed with good fortune they grieve: but when evil befalls you they rejoice. If you persevere and guard yourselves against evil, their machinations will never harm you. God has knowledge of all their actions.
3:149 - Believers, if you yield to the infidels they will drag you back to unbelief and you will return headlong to perdition. But God is your protector. He is the best of helpers.
4:89-90 - They would have you disbelieve as they themselves have disbelieved so that you may be all alike. Do not befriend them until they have fled their homes in the cause of God. If they desert you, seize them and put them to death wherever you find them.

These are but a FEW of MANY examples from the Koran. There are over 100 war-inspiring verses in the Koran (which is actually a very short book - unlike the Bible).

Knowing this, it is especially essential that we read the following excerpt from Don Richardson's book, "Secrets of the Koran":
The world needs to be warned. At least 40 million Muslim youth in the Muslim world's religious schools, called madrasas, are avidly memorizing the entire Koran plus a generally extremist body of related traditions - the hadiths. In the hands of extremists - whether run by Saudi Wahabbists, Osama bin Laden's followers or Indonesian mullahs - these schools become breeding grounds for potential terrorists. Early in the training, Muslim teachers especially focus pliable young minds on dozens of the Koran's extremely militant war verses, plus other texts that assure paradise for Muslim martyrs. Hatred for Jews and Christians (largely synonymous with Israel and America) and general disdain for all non-Muslims (defined by Muslim instructors as the House of War) are deeply instilled. The Bible is described as corrupted. Separation of Islam from political control is despised.

Christian and Jew-hating propaganda is widespread throughout the middle east. Saudi Arabian television and Iranian television promotes hateful propaganda to both adults and children, painting America as Satan and Israel as a scourge that must be annihilated. These arabic language broadcasts are translated and available for viewing at www.memritv.org.

There are Muslim organizations within the United States that are actively seeking the imposition of Sharia law worldwide. It doesn't sound plausible... but with the political correctness run amok here in the United States and really throughout the entire western world, it's quite possibly within their reach to (at the very least) make things dreadfully difficult for the rest of us.

The Muslims are also out-breeding the rest of the world. Muslim men frequently take more than one wife and procreate like you wouldn't believe. Did you know that Osama bin Laden is one of over fifty children? And Osama bin Laden has spawned well over twenty himself? What western nation is keeping up with that kind of procreative effort??

The naked truth is that there are billions of Muslims on earth, spread out over its entirety. Many claim to be moderate Muslims. But what does this mean? Does a moderate Muslim not live by the Koran? Does a moderate Muslim feel that they can pick and choose which of Muhammed's commands they will follow? Is a "radical Muslim" one who believes in following the Koran to the letter, while a moderate Muslim is just all about peace and love? It's really impossible to say...

There are some peaceful passages in the Koran. There are even some which admonish Muslims not to war against those who wish to be peaceful with Muslims. But then other passages go on to say that those who do not accept Muhammed as God's prophet or those who will not ponder the Koran are deserving of death.

There is an incredible piece of work on radical Islam in movie form called "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West." You can see much of this by going to youtube.com and looking it up. Fox News had done a report that included much of the movie.

There are peaceful Muslims, I know. I'm certain that there are more peaceful people who identify themselves as Muslim than there are violent ones. But the peaceful Muslims are not able or willing to stand up to the violent ones because they know that this means persecution within their faith or death. There are Muslims fighting Muslims over in the middle east all the time. The problem is large -- looming. Not sure what the ultimate solution is, but I do know where to begin:

America needs to wake up!

What does America need to wake up to? What threat does Islam hold for the United States? I can see the threat within Europe. Their culture is slowly being transformed by the mass movement of people from Islamic nations. As you mentioned those in Islam believe in reproducing themselves through having large families, while Europeons believe one child, if any is sufficient. With Europe headed in a direction that will be fully pro-islamic in a generation, what course of action does/can the United States take?

We are unable as a nation to defeat every countrie in the world who is Muslim dominated. Our military is already spead out around the world. What course of action do our leaders need to take in order to ensure our protection...economically, as well as physically?

You are right, political correctness in the west has weakened us. I am not sure how we will recover from that in time to deal with the hate that is directed toward us from all over the world. We need to believe in our own value as a nation, as a people and as an ideal, and at this point we don't.

Thanks for the information. I need to be a whole lot more educated than I am on this issue.

If America doesn't wake up, then America will become as Europe. We already have HERE many madrasas, we have HERE Muslims who are demanding their religious education in our public schools (and getting it), we have HERE serious (successful) conversion efforts going on in our prisons. These are serious threats that will only grow if America remains unaware and/or apathetic to the problem.

Keep in mind, too, that the hijackers of 9/11 trained for the mission in the United States. There are terrorist networks and cells among us here. We are not insulated from the problem.

Europe is not unique in not valuing large families. Here we see mainly two and three child families, with some exceptions. But there are those who have no children as well. This isn't a criticism of our family sizes at all -- I really like my family of four! But they will out-breed us here as well.

I think that one thing that needs to be done at the governmental level ASAP is getting us off foreign oil. We either need to raid our own supply for ourselves or we need some new technology enabling us to get off oil completely.

We also need to elect representation that understands the threat. Many in the House and the Senate appear not to understand at all - on both sides of the aisle. And we need to make sure that we elect Presidential leadership that understands the problem.

Beyond that, I really don't have any answers except that people need to be aware of what is going on in the United States with Islam, both radical and moderate. Education and awareness will produce innovation and creative problem solving... or at the very least a heightened state of alertness.
